Au Pair's Message to Families

HI! My name is Manon and I am 18 years old. I live in a small village called Wernberg which is in Carinthia in Austria. I have finished school this term and I did attend a bilingual stream.

My mum and me live together in a nice cosy little house with a big garden. Our relationship is very harmonious and besides small quarrels, we often have a lot of fun together. My mum is called Maryan and she works as a teacher at "my" school. She teaches English, French, and Arts and also works in the bilingual stream. Moreover I have got two pets- 1 rabbit called MacrDreamy and 1 guinea pig called Johnny.

My two best friends are called Anja and Victoria. I know them from grammar school and although we are not in the same school now, we try to see each other as much as possible. We often go to the cinema or watch films at home. In my freetime I like to meet my other friends too and besides that I love to read (especially funny books) , to watch TV (films with Will Smith or animated films), to listen to music and to dance. Muisc is very important for me because it helps me to calm down or to improve my mood when I am sad. My favourite groups are Bob Marley, Flogging Molly, Gentlemen, Incubus or Shaggy. I used to play the piano for three years but stopped because it was not the right thing for me. What I do regularly is dancing. I started dancing at the age of 16 and still do it four times a week. Mostly I do salsa dancing.

So why do I want to become an aupair? First of all I love chidlren. I have taken care of two chidlren. Lea and Theresa. Lea is about 3 years old and Theresa is about 13 years old. I have played with them, made little snacks for them and took them to bed. It is always a lot of fun to spend time with them. Of course it can be hard to keep liveable children under control sometimes, but most of the time it is a wondeful feeling and the best thing in the world is when you receive a chidlren's smile. A very enjoyable experience I can remember is my 18th birthday. Theresa and her family visited me unexpectedly and took me to a fun parc where I could do all what my heart desired. It was such fun to ride with Theresa in the roller coaster or to eat candy floss with her. In the evening they took me to a nice little restaurant and Theresa gave me a picture of me and herself which she had drawn as a present. Another reason why I want to become an Aupair is because I want to gather new experiences, to broaden my horizon and to meet new people and cultures. I am sure that I would make a lot of new friends and see and visit many new interesting places and sites. I think that this is a thing that you do just once in your life and such unique memories are unforgetable.

Another positive aspect is that I can improve my English skills and attend new courses at college which may help me later on. Concerning my personality I think that I am friendly, open-minded, very tolerant, funny and honest. I always try to stay calm in pressous situations and be patient if there is anything that doesn't work at once. I am nearly always in a good mood and give my best to see the positive sides in life. However I have to admit that I can be a bit too ambitious at times because I want to reach my goals.
