Au Pair's Message to Families
Future Host Family,
I´m 20 years old and I live in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. I live with my 2 sisters Ana Luiza and Amanda, my mother Marli, my grandma Edith and my dog Didiualy,my cousins Rebeca and Melissa stay in our place because their mother works a lot, so we take care of them.I really like to live in my mother's house. In Brazil, it is not usual for children to leave home, before they get married. Here family bounding is very strong. Some people even get married and live with their parents, as long as there is space, of course. I really enjoy the company of my family, my household is a lot of fun and we love each other very much.I also enjoy living in Rio de Janeiro, mainly because of the beaches and the hot weather. Rio's nick name is "Wonderful City". The reason is it's geographic lay out. It's where mountains of rain forest meet the most beautiful beaches. I also visit my father frequently. He moved outside the big city after he retired. He lives in a not so small, very green, quieter city called Resend. Sometimes my father comes to Rio and stay with us. In my free time I love to read books, mostly on world history. I also enjoy going to the movies and to the beach, as a perfect "carioca". I have also been attending driving school recently and I’ll get my driver's license in September 2008. I´m studying Pharmacy at Federal University of Rio De Janeiro. It is a public University, one of the best in Brazil.I really enjoy the profession in which I am preparing myself for, but I am eager to experience what it is like to live in another country. I am sure that will be a great experience. University takes up most of my time, as I study full time and like to participate in scientific events at university.I do a lot of lab research with some exotic plants from the amazon. I really enjoy it. It is my dream to be a pharmacist since I was a little girl. I believe I can, one day, develop or create medicines which will cure some illness which affect children in such a young age. I have a few aunts who expect me to discover a formula that will keep them beautiful and young forever... We will see. As for many people in Developing Countries, learning another language is very important. In my case, I chose to go t the US to combine learning and life experience. I am sure I will benefit from this experience very much. And, as my aunt Val says: "living and learning, you'll never forget and you'll appreciate it more". So, my plan is to have a break at University, so I can learn English well, learn about different lifestyles and, who knows, being able to offer you some of my own experiences. Here is where the position of Au Pair comes in handy:as I really love children and as I have been taking care of Pedro for a long time, the position of an Au Pair seems an ideal opportunity to full fill my dream. I’ve been taking care of Pedro since he was two years old. He is a lovely and energic child and I love him very much. Every day for 2 years, when I finish the class, I pick him up from his school. His mother, had breast cancer and could not fully care for him. His father and sister work full time and could not leave workter pick him up from school, I give him a shower, feed him and we watch TV. He loves cartoons and playing with cars. I look after him until his father and sister arrive from work, around 10 PM. He is usually in bed by this time. We follow a routine so he doesn’ get too tired the next day.Unfortunately, his mother died in April 2008 and I took care of him until June 2008. I have now decided that it is time for me to concentrate on planning my trip abroad. Even though we are apart, for school reason, I stop by at his house for a visit. We miss each other and I am concerned of his adaptation at his new preschool. We also talk on the phone, he is very cheeky and makes his father call me. He tells me all about school, new friends and teacher. Beside his father confidence on me in giving him good care, my knowledge in both child development and first aid helped in his decision, as he tells me.
I am very excited to go to the United States, especially to get to know you, the family who will take me in. I am sure it will be a great experience for me and I hope that my host family, especially the children, will like me. I assure I will do my best to successfully exceed in my Au Pair functions. I'm registered with the AuPairCare agency and I'm looking for a family that is or would be willing to register with this agency. Many thanks,
