Au Pair job description
We do not want you to feel that you are available the whole day – because this will be you new home. We want you to be like a bigger sister. We will make a schedule, that be both agree upon – before making the contact. The most important thing for us is that we can count on your help. We expect between 25 and 30 hours a week. In the morning we need getting the children ready for Day Care. It will be things like setting the table, take out trash; fill the dishwasher. There will be one weekly chore every day – like vacuuming or dusting. If you do your chores faster than scheduled – then you just have a shorter day. In the evening we will need your help for setting the table, empty the dishwasher. Two times a week you will get the boys at the Day Care. I will do all the laundry, cooking and grocery shopping. The hours in between the schedule are yours to spend, as you like. If you want to take classes we will make the schedule, so you will get the time to practise your interests.
Family's Message to Au Pair
We are a family with a lot of love and caring for each other. We find it very important that you feel at home with our family and feel free to speak out any opinion you may have. We can guarantee great nature experiences all year around. We live near the Sea with a great view. Once and a while we see the whales swim by to get into the fiord. In Nuuk there are possibilities for skiing from December to March or April - both Alpine and cross-country skiing. You can find almost all kind of sports – like soccer, swimming, fitness and much more. Mountain hiking is possible the rest of the year as well as rowing kayak. It is important to us that you like out door activities. Reading to the children and teaching them new skills is also important to us. Therefore it is natural for you to keep developing your own skills and see the value in learning new things all the time and taking classes. We value an honest person - who has her own opinions. We need you to be stabile and flexible. And can help us out when we need your help. Sometimes it requires more than other - but not more than 30 hours a week. We prefer a person who can handle many children in the age from 0 to 6 years old. You will never have the responsibility of all the children at once - by your self. We hope that you are willing to learn the Danish language – we will pay for your lessons, when you get here. Good English skill are required. It would be a good thing if you have a drivers license, but we don’t require it. We have two cars. The most important thing to us that you want to be a part of our family. Lærke, 5 ½ years, our daughter started school this year. She talks all the time. Likes to see cartoons especially Disney’s. She loves playing out door with some of her friends. Then she is clumsy. Painting and beads is also some of her favorites. Her favorite dishes are chicken and meatballs in curry (with rice). Lærke is not shy at all – Okay maybe the first 5 minutes. Lukas, 3 years, has just learned to speak. All our children speak Danish, but Lukas understands Greenlandic. He is very fond of play at home. He loves his siblings, family, grandparents and aunts. But Lukas is very shy. When he was one year old, his grandparents from Denmark (my husbands family) came to spend the New Year with us. It took him two days to overcome his shyness. But ever-since there have been no problems with his grandparents. Oskar, 1 ½ years, is still so small, but he loves going around in the house and explore everything. His is a little prince charming – learning the basic words in Danish. Oskar and Lukas go to the same day-care. Vibe, 33 years, works 28 hours a week as a nurse at the hospital in Nuuk. I am also pregnant and I am expecting twins in February. So we are going to be at huge family. But the children are the most important things in our lives and we try to give them the best possible start in life. As Au Pair you will never have to take the responsibility for more than 3 children at once. Thomas, 39 years, is the managing director at the He travels a lot and works a lot of hours. But he tries to be as much together with the children as possible. That means he starts the day early in the morning – before the children wake up. Thomas and I like to watch movies and play gambles like Trivial Pursued and games like Monopoly. I like cooking finer dishes when we have guests. But the everyday meals don’t have my biggest interest. It is just one of the daily necessaries. I also like doing handwork as sawing and painting. I am also the “Handy-man” in the house. We do not get around very much because we have small children. Now the family life takes most of our time, but that doesn’t matter, we love spending time with our family. Every Sunday we go to see my parents here in Nuuk, so the children at least once a week spent time with their grandparents. Once or twice a year we go to Denmark, where Thomas family are living.
