Au Pair's Message to Families

Host Family,

Hello!JMy name is Qing , you can call me Qing or Daisy, and I’m 22 years old. The name Qing means “Chinese Painting” or “Danqing Painting” in Chinese. I was named this because my father hoped I would grow up to be a skilled Chinese painter. ^0^

I grew up in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, located in Central China. Wuhan is the birthplace of the China's Chu culture, which has a history stretching back hundreds of years and has had a strong impact on Chinese history. I love my hometown. If you are interested in the Chu culture and ever happen to pass through Wuhan, I will be happy to take you to visit the Hubei Provincial Museum and the Yellow Crane Tower, both great testimonies to the role Wuhan has played in Chinese history.

I’m not sure how to start describing my personality. Perhaps I could tell you what my family, my friends, and my teachers say about me. From my youth, they allowed me to find my own path and I’m eternally grateful for their support. My friends say I am trustworthy, optimistic, and very easy to get along with. My parents are proud of my independence and assertiveness. My college counselor evaluated as a person who "studies seriously and actively participates in school activities, a strong ability to adapt.”

My hobbies are very broad. Swimming, hiking, camping, yoga, jogging, photography, drawing, handicrafts, writings, arts, museums, movies, theatre, reading, dancing, sightseeing, computer games, cooking, travel, meeting friends. I have been gone to 13 cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Xi’an and Hong Kong. On the road, I would usually draw sketches and photographic. If you like, I will show my works to you. Do you like fish? I feed seven fish, they are all lovely guys! In addition to like fish, I also like dogs and cats and turtles. ^0^

I’m interested in becoming an au pair not only to increase my English skills and understand American culture, but also because I can do this while spending time with children, all things I greatly enjoy. Their imagination and creative thinking not only brings great joy to my heart, but also brings a lot of new ideas to my design. In addition, my degree is bachelor. My major is decoration design. As you know the United States have many well-known artist and art Design University, such as San Francisco State University that is why I choose to be an au pair in the USA. I am an independent person and feel that my experience has been unique from many girls who started in the same position as I. My parents support this decision, as they have so many others and, though I believe I will be homesick at first, I believe that I can quickly adapt to the new environment, especially with some kind guidance from your family.

When I finish au pair program, I want to return my hometown. I intent to became an art teacher in high school or operate a studio of advertisement by myself. I believe that this year of as an au pair will definitely help me to stand out from other people my age, will help me become more confident, worldly, and make friends and form memories with great people on the other side of the world. I truly hope that I will be able to form life-long bonds with the family I become a part of.

While I enjoy being immersed in American culture, I will be happy to share any aspects of my native culture that you would be interested in. I would be very happy to teach you and your children some simple Chinese, tell your children stories from Chinese mythology, and cook Chinese foods for you.
